Do you know the 4 main symptoms of digestive discomfort?

Probiotics and the B.L. RegularisTM strain*

What is a probiotic?

Probiotic, a term that we often hear when talking about nutrition... But do we really know what "probiotics" mean?

According to the World Health Organization, "probiotics are defined as live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host".

Probiotics: what do they do?

Probiotics can contribute to the health of the gut flora.

They are found in certains foods and fermented drinks, tablets or added to certain consumer products. They can contribute to :

  • Maintaining the balance of bacteria in the intestinal tract. (Adolfsson et al., 2004)
  • They can influence digestive system by providing a regular source of good bacteria for the intestinal tract. (Gill et al., 2004)

B.L. RegularisTM probiotics : what do they consist of?

B.L. RegularisTM probiotics* are Activia's exclusive probiotics strain. B.L. RegularisTM probiotics survive the passage through the gastrointestinal tract and arrive intact in the intestines, maximizing their benefits. Each portion of 100g of Activia contains 1 billion B.L. RegularisTM probiotics. In 2013, a study led by D. Guyonnet and P.Marteau found a decrease in the symptoms of digestive discomfort in connection with a regular consumption of Activia yogurt.

The main symptoms of digestive discomfort

When the digestive system is unbalanced, many ailments related to digestive discomfort tend to manifest themselves.

To get a clearer picture, here are the four main symptoms of digestive discomfort:

 • Gas: Rush eating or swallowing air while eating can cause gas. Fermentation of foods like legumes, cauliflower or gas from soft drinks can generate production of gas.

 • Bloating: Bloating is caused by accumulation of gas in the stomach or the intestines. It can therefore increase the volume of the abdomen and cause a swollen belly sensation.

 • Rumbling: Rumbling noise is caused by muscular contractions in the digestive tract. Certain contractions are noisier than others, due to important quantities of food in the intestines.

 • Abdominal pain: Abdominal pain, which manifest itself as cramps, is caused by accumulation of gas in the abdomen. It is often accompanied by bloating.
