Not all bacterial cultures are created equal!
The word probiotic literally means "for life." According to the WHO (World Health Organization), probiotics are living bacteria which, when consumed in sufficient quantities, have beneficial effects on health.
Scientific studies suggest that probiotics may play a major role in digestive health and may also help strengthen our natural defenses.
The most familiar probiotics are lactic acid bacteria: Lactobacillus, Streptococcus and Bifidobacterium. (Source: Danone Nutritopics, Danone Vitapole. March 2004)
Probiotic action
Some probiotics improve absorption of certain nutrients; others produce vitamins. Still others produce organic acids that fight the growth of harmful bacteria and play a role in the intestinal ecosystem.
While many yogurts contain live bacterial cultures, their bacteria may not have the strength to survive the digestive process - in other words, they may not provide the same health benefits as Activia®.
To maintain optimal levels of good bacteria in our digestive system and to maximize their beneficial effects in the body, we need to replenish them - every day. Each serving of Activia® delivers more than 1 billion live, active Bifidobacterium (animalis) lactis, - BL RegularisTM, to our system.
